I didn't get the job. Apparently they'd already given it to an internal person but were advertising and receiving CVs as insurance in case it didn't work out.

The "though must advertise every position" rules are rubbish. Sounds like the job was always someone elses - so why waste "your" time and money!
Yeah, that's what was most annoying. It was perfect for me - cheap booze and sleep in my own bed :)
