Do you know what I did today? Probably not.

I cleared my final credit card. This makes me debt free.

Well, I have a couple of years left on my car loan, and 15 years left on my mortgage, but apart from *that* I'm debt free.

Yeah, okay, the overdraft - but that will be gone next month.

It counts as debt free to me anyway :)

Woo hoo!

Mortgages are 'good' debt, they definitely don't count.

:)

You need a bank account that combines your mortgage with your current account and lets you borrow at mortgage rates up to a specified limit. Such accounts exist.

oestrebunny - if any debt is considered good, it's a mortgage. I just have to stop extending it to have expensive holidays now ;-)

gb - I would indeed have a combined account if I wasn't with a mutual building society. It'll vote to list soon and then I'll get a nice big bonus. Then the beers (and bananas) will be on me!

Good for you! I just paid off my one and only credit card two months ago and it was a very good day indeed. Congrats!

brandy - only one credit card? Now that's restraint :)

Puss - vintage champagne eh? Well due to the ridiculous situation where the more you pay off the more they extend your credit limit, I now have a credit limit of £10k - enough for one of your cocktails at the Dorchester :-P

Hey well done! I've halved my credit card debt this year, so still some way to go before I can clear it. My car is paid off next year and there's 14 years on the mortgage. I do have a holiday coming up later in the year which will be a challenge to pay off by the end of the year though....have to try hard not to undo all my good work!
